Freddie Mercury and David Bowie's Isolated "Under Pressure" vocals

These are the isolated vocals from Queen & David Bowie's track "Under Pressure".

Bumping into each other in Mountain Studios in Montreux, Bowie began to collaborate on a track by adding backing vocals, but then decided they should write a brand new one, which they did during a 24 hour booze and cocaine session.

‘When the backing track was done, David said, “Okay, let’s each of us go in the vocal booth and sing how we think the melody should go–just off the top of our heads–and we’ll compile a vocal out of that.” And that’s what we did.’ recalls Brian May. Some of these improvisations, including Mercury’s memorable introductory scatting vocal, would endure on the finished track. Bowie also insisted that he and Mercury shouldn’t hear what the other had sung, swapping verses blind, which helped give the song its cut-and-paste feel.

Not a huge Bowie or Queen fan, but found this story fascinating - read more about this track on Open Culture, and thanks to Bill from God Is In The TV for sharing

Festivals 2013

My festival season starts in two days, and takes me through to mid-September, from Radio One's Big Weekend, Glastonbury, a variety of festivals in Ireland, Reading, BBC Proms in Hyde Park - but my favourite, without a doubt, is Hove in Southern Norway.

This is Deadmau5 on "my" stage 2 years ago. Yep, purchased all his albums after this.

Moonwalking Shetland Pony : The Sequel

Most amusing - watch before it gets removed from YouTube. The original ad is great - up to the tractor, after that, it drags - IMHO the moonwalking scene goes on too long, doesn't it? Did they run out of ideas?

Bon Jovi "Living On A Prayer" Goat Edition

Most amusing thing I've seen all week, and the best Goat video - plus it involves Bon Jovi (who, as I've already bored everyone with, have only got 3 songs).

Thanks to Amadeus on B3ta for sharing.

Whitney's is amusing too.

And to tie in with yesterday's Final Countdown post, here's Blaas Og Glory - the heavy metal marching band performing "Living On A Prayer"

Could "The Final Countdown" Be The Most Covered Song On YouTube?

Probably no question that Europe's one hit wonder "The Final Countdown" is one of most instantly recognisable and catchiest songs ever written but could it be the most covered song on YouTube? One day probably, but they definitely have the widest variety, here's 10 of my favourites and fear not, no Kazoo's;

Anders Flanders's one man band version;

The metal marching band version by Blaas Of Glory;

Barbershop version;

Abba's Benny Andersson's version, on his accordian with members of his solo band (starts at about 50secs)

Speaking of accordian players *ahem*, this one also features a Tuba and a 'voice';

Symphony Orchestral version;

Big Band version;

Precision Chinese Marching Band version - drums sound epic on this;

The Empty Festival version - hardly surprising with this infamous attempt;

And if you'd like to play the hook on your Casio keyboard, here's how - and it only requires the right hand apparently;

And finally. The original in all its 80's glory - I'd forgotten all the behind the scenes footage of the 'making of the video' in the video itself, wonder what the budget was for the pyros at the start, or are they fire extinguishers? 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. *cut to director* GO.
